Carrara marble sculpture of a roaring lion on a rock by the French sculptor Thomas Cartier. A rarety on the antique market.

Lit: Cartier is an animal sculptor born in Marseilles, a student of Georges Gardet at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. He exhibited his mainly feline sculptures at the beginning of the 20th century at the Salon des Artistes français (gold medal in 1927) as well as at the Salon d'Automne. He likes to express the wild side of the animal.
