Large portrait of a cowboy during a rodeo. Very original scene for a Belgian artist, painted during his 'American' period. The horse is beautifully painted with lot of details. Oil on canvas, signed Jef Vanleemputten, Antwerpen lower right. Original gilt frame.

Literature: Jef Vanleemputten (Werchter 1865-1948) is an animal and historical painter, son of Jean-Baptiste Vanleemputten. He is the pupil of Charles Verlat. His work has a lot of success in the U.S. In the dictionary of animal painters, Belgian and Dutch artists born between 1750 and 1880, p322, the same portrait is shown with the title "Busting Bill" which is owned by a private American collector.
