Liter: Born near Dol-de-Bretagne, 1814 and died in Paris,1879. Student of Isabey, great traveler, he took part at long trips/missions in order to paint subjects ordered by Officers of the French Marine.He participates at the expedition that had to bring back the body of Napoleon from Sainte-Hélène to France. In 1843, he exhibited 2 paintings at “ Le Salon de Paris” that represented this expedition. After that exhibition, he obtained the order of 21 painting representing battles of the war of Crimea for the galleries of Versailles. Those were presented at the Salon in 1857, which leaded the King of Austria to order him a view of the battle of Lissa ( currently Vis ) in 1866. His seascapes are known to be real documents although his brush has a sensitive way to represent nature, landscapes.
